Big MaMa Earth will Co-Host the Children’s area at Earth Fair 2012 at Balboa Park in San Diego, CA.  The annual EarthFair in Balboa Park is the largest free annual environmental fair in the world. EarthFair 2012 will be our 23rd annual event! Each year, the EarthFair draws around 60,000 visitors.

Produced by 400 volunteers, EarthFair features more than 350 exhibitors, special theme areas, a Food Pavilion, a special Kids’ Activity Area, three entertainment venues, the Children’s Earth Parade, the eARTh Gallery art show, and the Cleaner Car Concourse.

Big MaMa Earth & the Eco-Earth Kids will be Special Guests and Perform for thousands of Children.

2012 marks the 16th year of the Children’s Water Education Festival (Festival). The Festival, the largest of its kind in the United States, will take place March 28 – 29, 2012 at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, California.

More than 6,000 third, fourth, and fifth grade students and their teachers are expected to attend the event, presented by the Orange County Water District, Disneyland Resort and the Orange County Water District Groundwater Guardian Team.

The Festival presents a unique opportunity to educate students about local water issues and help them understand how they can protect water supplies and their environment. Since its inception, more than 85,000 children from schools throughout Orange County have been able to experience the Festival and all it has to offer.

Last year’s festival hosted students from nearly 70 public and private schools from 20 Orange County cities. More than 60 California organizations generously devoted their time and resources to assist in educating budding young environmental stewards.

Throughout the Festival, participating organizations engage the students through interactive educational presentations that are taught to California State Science Standards. Because of this, educators consistently rate the education value of the Festival very high.

The Festival is provided at no cost to Orange County schools. Hosting an event of this magnitude is made possible by many generous sponsors, presenters and dedicated volunteers. We are proud to work with such committed organizations and individuals each year.

It is more important than ever to teach our children that they can be responsible by making “blue” and “green” choices to help protect our precious water resources and environment now and for the future.

Big MaMa Earth and the Eco-Earth Kids will be co-hosting the Dana Point Festival of Whales on March 3-4, 2012.  On March 3rd Big MaMa Earth and the Eco-Earth Kids will be showcased in Dana Point anual eco-parade and then co-host the children’s block party.  On Sunday March 4th, Big MaMa Earth and the Eco-Earth Kids will co-host Ocean Awareness Day at Dana Point Harbor.

The Dana Point Festival of Whales will celebrate its 41^st year beginning Saturday, March 3rd and continuing through March 11^th, 2012. The Festival of Whales is a committee of volunteers who put together various events and activities during the Festival.  They are a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a greater awareness and understanding of the migrating California Gray Whale and the preservation of the ocean environment.

The Festival of Whales would like to invite your organization to participate in our 12^th Annual “Ocean Awareness Day”.  Ocean
Awareness Day this year will be on SUNDAY, MARCH 4^TH, from 11am-4pm in beautiful Dana Point Harbor. We are inviting organizations that play a significant role in the education and preservation of our ocean environment to attend.  We have been building on our success each year and have included some additional events located next to us to make the event even larger. We will also have a Whale of a BBQ located near us for great food.  We will be providing substantial public relations support for this event in our effort to bring
together the many surrounding communities to come down and see what is happening with our ocean environment and what the many groups are doing to help preserve it.

The incredible 5000-mile migration of the majestic California Gray Whale from Alaska to Mexico begins in December and continues through March.  During this peak season, 40 – 50 whales pass by Dana Point each day, using the Dana Point Headland’s 200-foot cliffs near the harbor as a landmark to check their migration path.  Dana Point offers the BEST whale watching along the California Coast – don’t miss it!  There’s a whale watching excursion for everyone – note listings on final page.  If you’re interested in getting a glimpse of these majestic leviathans from land, be sure to visit the Headlands Conservation Park.  The Park includes a public trail system, over three miles in length, and links all the parks and open space areas of the Headlands. The system includes pedestrian trails, coastal and beach access, scenic overlooks and the Nature Interpretive Center. The parks and trails can be reached either off of Green Lantern or at Dana Strand Rd., limited parking is available along these streets or at the Nature Interpretive Center parking lot.  The trails are open from 7 a.m. to sunset daily.  The Nature Interpretive Center is located adjacent to the Headlands Conservation Park, at the terminus of Street of the Green Lantern. The facility includes educational, management and operational space designed as a visitor center for the open space parks. Center Hours: 10 am – 4 pm.  From Dana Point Harbor visitors may take the FREE shuttle to the Ocean Institute and then proceed up Cove Road to the Park.  It’s a good work out for those looking for a little adventure and some spectacular views!
